This 1:12 scale daybed kit is a reproduction of 1931 Swedish daybed originally designed by Axel Einar Hjorth. Even though the original is firmly art deco, the whimsical curvy top makes it perfect for cutesy, cottagecore, soft modern, or gen z style dollhouses. The kit is the perfect introduction to miniature upholstery: you cannot get easier than this no-sew cushion. It is also made of real wood, so you can paint it or stain it to bring out the grain.

The kit comes with all the components you need to make the frame and cushion. For tools, you will need glue, a craft cutter, a ruler or measuring tape, scissors, an emery board or sandpaper (optional), and a clothing iron (optional).

The finished daybed measures 6-1/2" long x 3-3/8" deep x 3-5/8" tall (16.5cm x 8.6cm x 9.2cm). (It is scaled to be a twin sized bed.)

It is rated easy. It is intended for adults.

FAQ

What tools do I need to finish the kits?

All of the kits need glue to complete--any kind that adheres to wood will work. (I use Aleene's Tacky Glue.) You may also need a craft knife, sandpaper or an emery board, and clamps or clips.

Is paint provided to make the kit look like the sample?

No, the kits do not include paint or stain. Any type of paint, stain, or marker that adheres to wood will work. For the samples, I used craft acrylic paints, artist acrylic paints, water-based washes, oil-based wood stain, and micron markers.

Will I be able to customize this?

Yes! All of the kits and components are made of basswood ply (except the boot tray, which is chipboard). While it requires some elbow grease, the wood can be be cut with multiple passes of a craft knife.

Don't hesitate to reach out if you're not sure about the ease or possibility of a customization you're considering, and I can work through it with you or potentially do a custom order.
